Crop Circles
Summary of Crop Circles:
Patterns of flattening crops such as wheat, barley, rye, corn, soy and others is known as crop circles. Some crop circles are thought to be man-made hoaxes and sometimes even proven to be. However UFOs and crop circles have been directly linked together as a paranormal explanation of such sophisticated designs. Some of the well known crop cirlce hoaxers include Doug Bower, Dave Chorley and John Lundberg and a study conducted in the UK in 200 revealed that 80 percent of all UK circles was man-made. Bower and Chorley actually recieved a nobel prize for their crop circles.
History:
During the 17th century a recorded image called the “Mowing-Devil” resembled a crop circle, which has the devil cutting circular designs in a oat field. Since the early 1980s crop circles have become increasingly popular within media attention, and the case in which the designs are in fact man made might actually have a motive of bring new tourism to a desolate small town. For example, in 1996 one appeared close to Stonehenge and farmer who owned the crop charged people to see it earning about £30,000 when the harvested crop itself was only worth about £150. Historically some of the earlier UFOlogical studies showed cases in which the crops was either cut or burnt rather than being flattened.
Designs:
Over the years what used to be quite simple circular patterns in a wide range of sizes has evolved to more complex state of the art precision geometric patterns. This is likely due to the increased number in people who make hoax crop circles and the desire for them to recieve media attention. Not everybody believes that all crop circles are man made, some think these could be caused by strange meteorological events such as a freak tornado. This would be more likely to the less sophisticated designs, not the precise geometically designed ones. Even some of the high tech designs are thought to be mastered with precision, these include cases where perfect geometeric circular paterns with not error and also cases where some raditiation is detected. These are thought to be by some as Alien message to us and was made by a UFO hovering over the field. Colin Andrews was funded in 1999 to lead a 2 year research of crop circles and was unable to find any signs of any human interaction amongst 20% of those investigated.
Theories:
Crop circles located near certain ancient sites like Stonehenge has led to some “New Age” worship. The New Age followers gather at these locations to meditate and think that the circle itself grants an ability to communicate with spirits. Many reports of strange lights seen over or a field or a UFO itself in the proximity of the crop circle has led to be them being directly associated with UFOs and extraterrestrials. Some images and video has surfaced that support this theory and some of these have been proven to be another UFO hoax as well.
Conclusion:
I’m skeptical of crop circles mainly because of the amount of cases in which those who studied these and investigated cases has said that one is definently not man made and later somebody confesses to its creation. I’m not saying that some crop circles are not being created by UFOs, but even if so with so many that are being made by hoaxers with those who are being suckered into thinking its has a message from aliens it can be very disappointing. I am sure the people who devote even more massive ammounts of time studying UFOlogy are even more frustrated than I am with such pranksters who joke about something we believe important to find the truth.
